University of British Columbia
Head Librarian, Xwi7xwa Library
Vancouver, BC
Sarah Dupont is the Head Librarian of the X̱wi7x̱wa Library at The University of British Columbia (UBC), which is located on the traditional, unceded territory of the Musqueam Indigenous people. Sarah’s family is Métis and settler-Canadian. Her leadership role as Head of Xwi7xwa includes administrative, collections development, and strategic work on Indigenous initiatives in both the Library and across the University. Sarah was the unnatural Indigitization Program Manager Librarian from 2012-2020. This program supports non-academic, practical work in Indigenous communities where the digitization of ethnographic and linguistic materials is taught by Indigitization experts, the project is community-led, and the Indigitization program provides grant funds to do the work. Sarah previously served as the UBC iSchool’s First Nations Curriculum Concentration coordinator and co-taught Information Practice and Protocol in Support of Indigenous Initiatives there. She is the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries’ (COPPUL) Chair of the Indigenous Knowledge Standing Committee and the British Columbia Library Association’s First Nations Interest Group Convenor. Sarah is a recent ARL Leadership Career Development Program alumna.
